What is marketing?

Maybe you also ask this question to your friends ,family members,mentors etc.And mostly you get the answers “Marketing is about selling of products” But are you totally agree with this answer ?

If someone asks this question to me ,my answer is always “no”.So,I am telling you about what marketing exactly be.Marketing is not just about selling ,it is also about keeping an existing customer .Marketing starts before creating the product.Marketing starts when you understanding the need and wants of the customers for creating the product.

Suppose,you doing marketing and target customers who have no need for your product than ,Are your marketing exactly works? “ NO” . Because you target those customers who have no need for your product.So most essential part of marketing is-

“ Target customers who have actually need for your product”

Fundamentals of Marketing (Key points must remember)

  1. Marketing starts before creating the product.
  2. Marketing is about sending right message ,to the right person ,at the right time.
  3. Marketing is about keeping an existing customer happy by communicating with them so that they can remain a customer for life.
  4. Marketing is to build a brand and capture a position in the minds of the consumers.
  5. Never let marketing become more important than product.Because a great product sells itself and a great product converts your customers into brand ambassadors.
  6. Word of marketing is the best channel of marketing ever.

Building a strong brand

Your brand is much more than a creative logo and catchy slogan.It’s the very essence of who you are ,what you stand for ,and what customers can expect when you engage.

Most of the people think that if I became no.1 in this field, but think that if you became only one in any field, how’s it is?

Choose category and became a leader in the category .Most interesting thing is that- deciding where to compete is half of your success.

If you building a brand,your brand name became a verb ,example-Google,Xerox,Zoom are brand names which have become verbs.

Importance of communication skills

If you have a good communication skills than you also understand how’s it impact on others .

Good marketing is all about good communication skills.You started thinking that which type of communication skills. Let me tell you what communication skills-

  1. Able to transfer your thoughts effectively to you customers.
  2. Write like you talk.
  3. Understand your target audience very well.
  4. Join a conversation in people’s mind.

Lets understand about digital and traditional marketing.Digital marketing is using digital channels such as websites and social media where as Traditional marketing involves traditional channel like billboards and printed media.

If a product is generic with a very wide targeting.TV Ads can reach millions at a low cost.India has TVs in 197 million house out of 298 million homes. The reach of Digital Marketing close to TV based on numbers alone.

Digital marketing is the best medium to reach the affluent English speaking population in India with spending power.-100 million users.Radio has a reach of 65% the Indian population and Newspaper has a reach of 465 Million people.

Work:Put your new found skills to work.Go from practice to implementation.

Blog:Write about what you have learned and experienced through your work.When you write,you understand it better,but you will also start building your personal brand.

Consult:Now that you have a personal brand through your blog ,have work experience and have learned the fundamentals ,start consulting other business instead of working for them.

Mentor:Mentor others who want to become like you.Mentoring will help you scale your understanding to a whole new level.

Startup:Start your own product or service business with the understanding that you have developed about the market,the problem and your own skills.
